I think we all want peace in our lives. Why wouldn’t we? There is more than enough stress in today’s world to make us want to live our lives with some semblance of peace. What used to be called “common courtesy” seems to have disappeared in a world where performance and self-centeredness are the norm.
Before I came back to the Lord, my life was an emotional and spiritual mess. I could see no light at the end of the tunnel of my life. While I thought that I was a pretty good guy, I knew that there were parts of me that were filled with a darkness that I couldn’t comprehend. Worry and anxiety were my constant companions in a world that was becoming increasingly difficult to navigate. I only seemed to think of God when I had used up all my human options. In short, I had no idea where I was going!
Finally, one day, I turned my eyes fully onto the Lord because I didn’t know what else to do. What a magnificent and merciful God we have! Even though I had turned my back on Him, He never turned His back on me! Slowly, as I read and started to put God’s Word into practice, my outlook changed. I started to see a new purpose in my life. God’s love started to break through the darkness and show me His infinite purpose for His children. Listen to how God’s Word describes what was going on in my life in Romans 8:6 (NLT)”
“If your sinful nature controls your mind, there is death. But if the Holy Spirit controls your mind, there is life and peace.”
Without God, there is only sin and death. With God and His Spirit in our lives, there is life and peace. So, we have a choice on how to live. When people don’t know about God or they refuse to acknowledge His presence and love in their lives, they are living in darkness and spiritual death. When we accept the presence of the living God, His love and light drive away the darkness of sin if we will let it!
Child of God, are you living in the darkness of this present world or in the love and light of our eternal Lord? It’s as easy as turning your mind and heart towards Him and acknowledging His Lordship over your life. His love and presence in your life is not an additional burden that you will have to bear but will slowly start to affect the current burdens in your life. Let His love lift you above the waves of darkness and confusion that can fill our lives. When trials and anxiety attack you, don’t turn your eyes inward to find the solution – turn you eyes upwards towards your Lord and Saviour and let Him be the solution.
