When I was working, I travelled quite a bit to different parts of the world. At one point, I lived in Germany for seven years. The culture is quite different and they are very open about sex. It’s very easy to get pulled into this type of lifestyle if you’re not careful. I was a temporary resident and foreigner in a different culture.

This is also a good description of Christians living here on earth. We are warned in 1 Peter 2:11 (NLT):

“Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.”

Just as Jesus was not loved by this world, we can expect to have some opposition when we live as God’s children. This verse tells us that we are “temporary residents and foreigners”, meaning that we should not get involved in the sinful ways in which the world lives. Like living in a different country, it’s very easy to be swayed by the things of this world.

Child of God, all of God’s children are temporary residents and foreigners here on earth. We are citizens of Heaven, as well as heirs and co-heirs with Christ Jesus. Don’t lay up treasures here on earth – don’t count of what the world gives us because it is temporal – we can’t take anything with us when we go to Heaven. So, keep your eyes fixed on our Lord and Saviour Jesus and He will show us the way home.
