Does your sinful nature or your godly nature have control of your mind? Good question! Honestly, there are days that I’m not sure who is in control of my mind! But what is your hearts desire? I believe that’s what God is interested in. What is your will? Is it to please God or to please man? These questions came to mind when I read Romans 8:6-8 (NLT)
“If your sinful nature controls your mind, there is death. But if the Holy Spirit controls your mind, there is life and peace. For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.”
While we are in these bodies of flesh, our sinful nature will always be there. Has Satan been tormenting you every time your sinful nature gets away from you? Don’t let him do that to you! We will sin – every day! BUT, what is your heart’s intent every day? If it’s to listen to and be controlled by Satan and the world’s will, you will never please God. Satan can make us feel terrible every time we mess up. Like the Apostle Paul said in Romans 7:24 (NKJV):
“O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?”
I felt so much better after I read this verse! Even the Apostle Paul struggled with his sinful nature. However, victory and hope come to those who love God in verse 25:
I thank God — through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.
Verse 25 was a breakthrough for me. The Apostle Paul tells us that with our minds we have two natures – the nature of God given to us through the atoning death of Jesus on the cross and the sinful nature, given to us by the fall of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. The question we have to ask ourselves is, “Which nature do we serve?”
Child of God, does Satan beat you up every day because your sinful nature gets away from you? Don’t listen to him! If you serve the Lord your God with your heart, you are pleasing God. Don’t let Satan tell you that you aren’t! Every day that your will to please God increases through following His word for your life, you are winning! This is what Satan hates! So, take heart brothers and sisters, keep advancing towards the victory that Jesus Christ bought for us on the cross. Never give up!
