As I took my daily walk yesterday, I asked the Lord to show me something. As I crossed the street, I could hear a child’s laughter coming from the house on the corner. At first, I couldn’t see anything because of the foliage of a large tree and shrubs. As I drew closer, I could see a young girl and a woman sitting in front of each other at a small table. Because of the strong sun and a gentle breeze, alternating shadows and light flitted across their faces. As I looked, the Holy Spirit told me that this was a representation of the human spiritual condition. As we interact with others, the darkness of our sin and the light of God struggle for dominance in our lives.

So, my question is what has dominance in your life? When you interact with others, what do they see? Look at one of the ways that the bible describes this battle within us in 1 John 1:5-7 (NLT):

“This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.”

Child of God, if we live in the light of God, we live in His love.
