I was sitting in a mall the other day having a coffee. Just across from me was the lottery ticket booth. I marveled at the number of people that were buying tickets, which the sign said was worth 25 million dollars. Young and old, people lined up. Have you ever been to a casino? It’s amazing how many people spend thousands of dollars for the chance to win big.
As I am getting older in life and walking longer with the Lord, I realize that money isn’t everything! Money is nothing compared to knowing Jesus and the power of His resurrection. His Word is what brings us through the difficult times in our lives if we would but read the bible. Psalm 119:162 (NKJV) says:
“I rejoice at Your word, as one who finds great treasure.”
Money is temporal. In other words, you can’t take it with you when you die. God’s Word is eternal – we have it in this world and in our eternal home. Money is only good for a period of time, that is, until it runs out. God’s Word never runs out and keeps on giving and giving.
Child of God, I pray that you listen carefully to me now. Put your hope and trust in God and in His Word. Yes, I know that money is important. Life can be very difficult without it. But don’t put your hope and trust in money. Put your hope and trust in our Heavenly Father who knows what we need and will provide more that we can ever possibly imagine. The bible says that we only have to ask Him. If you want real treasure that lasts, invest in God’s Word. The interest rate is phenomenal!
