We will do many things to try to feel better about ourselves. We’ll buy new clothes, go on a trip or maybe just go out for a nice meal at a local restaurant. It’s very important how you feel in your heart. If you have a poor opinion of yourself or a good opinion, it can affect how you feel physically and mentally. Not liking yourself can range from not liking how you look, which can cause a lack of energy that leaves you laying on the couch all day watching TV. Or, feeling good about yourself that gives you the energy that sends you past the couch and out the door to cut the grass.
Do you know that how we feel spiritually can affect how we feel physically? As Christians, we should never feel depressed because we know that our Heavenly Father loves us with an everlasting love. His Son, Jesus, died for us so that we can be in an eternal relationship with our Lord. If we care what the world thinks of us, we’ll never live up to what this demands. If we care what our Lord thinks of us, we won’t worry how we fit into this world. The bible tells us that while we live in this world, we are not part of it because we are citizens of heaven! Proverbs 23:7 wisely tells us that:
“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he…”
King Solomon, who probably wrote the first 29 chapters of the book of Proverbs, was a very wise king. He had the wisdom of God. And he realized that how we really feel about ourselves in our hearts will affect the way that we live. We have a choice. What profit is there if we don’t like something about ourselves that we can’t change? If we live and walk with the Holy Spirit, it doesn’t matter what we look like or what we do.
So, Child of God, what do you think? Are you going to listen to who God says you are in the bible? Are you going to walk in your identity as a son or daughter of God? Or are you going to listen to the world and your flesh and be unhappy? Read the bible and look at who and what God says that you are! Take these truths and change your heart. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you the way that God sees you. Then you can truly be the son or daughter of God that you are supposed to be.
