Have you ever experienced God’s peace? It’s a peace so profound that it’s shocking! When I first came back to the Lord, I was reading Proverbs 15:1 (NKJV), which says:
“A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”
This verse was a rhema word for me, because I immediately thought how difficult it is to not answer in anger when someone is harsh with us. I am so happy that the Lord showed me this scripture verse, because shortly afterwards, something happened in my life that turned my world upside down. When we talk about major events that happen in our lives that stress us, this nightmare was a ten out of ten!
What was said to me should have sent me running out of the room but a quiet, little voice inside me said, “It’s OK, leave this to me”. As the voice of the person escalated in harshness and tone, my peace increased at the same time! I remember thinking, “I should be screaming myself hoarse right now…what’s going on?” What came to mind was the words from the scripture, “A soft answer turns away wrath but a harsh word stirs up anger” When the person stopped talking, I knew that an answer was expected. With the scripture in mind, I answered the person in a calm voice. More angry words came from the other person. Surprisingly, as I answered with the peace of God, the tone and caliber of the person’s voice changed. Later, I realized that the Lord was doing something in my life that I didn’t think was possible. This was not a brief period of peace but lasted throughout this ordeal. I saw the effects of God’s peace and power, and my life was forever changed.
Child of God, how do you react when someone says or does something that turns your world upside down? God’s Word is not just a collection of philosophy that we can meditate on, but are the wisdom and power of God working in the lives of those who love God through His Son, Jesus Christ. I learned that our Heavenly Father is always ready to help, whatever our need. Let His words change your life, as they have mine.
