We all have storms in our lives – those times when everything seems to have been turned upside down. Or when Monday seems like a Friday after a long week of work! Or maybe, you’ve lost your job, the kids are sick, or you have to pay for something with money you don’t have.
What to do? Do we make a hasty decision based on our emotions or do we wait out the storm and make a decision when the initial shock of the situation has subsided?
While David was hiding in a cave from King Saul, He knew that he had to be still and wait on the Lord for protection. The psalmist in Psalms 57:1 (NLT) prays:
“Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy! I look to you for protection. I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings until the danger passes by.”
Oh, that we could wait on the Lord in times of crisis! To not emotionally run around when we feel threatened. To be able to retreat under the protection of God’s wings until the danger goes by.
Yes, sometimes we have to make quick decisions in hard circumstances. But it doesn’t mean that we can’t turn the outcome of the situation over to the Lord. He loves us and wants to help s in all of life’s situations. Wait out the storms of your life under the shadow of God’s wings.
