Have you ever watched a small child approach a parent? There is no hesitation because their parent represents love and affection. We call ourselves children of God, but do we act like children of God?  Do we love Him and obey Him? Do we go to Him as a little child – full of wonder and trust?

I don’t think that many of God’s children come to Him in the way that we are told in Matthew 18:3:

“And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, we are to approach our Heavenly Father as a little child approaches his or her earthly father. A small child approaches their Dad with trust for love, protection, care and encouragement. Not in pride and with a hidden agenda. Our Heavenly Father wants us to approach Him in love and humility; otherwise, we are not pleasing to Him! This is very difficult to do for most people. I believe that it’s only in a loving, close relationship with our God that we can approach Him in humility and complete trust. Just like a little child.

How about you? Have you humbled yourself to the point where you can approach your Heavenly Father as His little child? If we want to have a complete, loving relationship with Him, we have to strip off our pride and approach Him as who He is. Humble yourself under His mighty hand, and He will lift you up! (James 4:10 NIV)
