I spent this morning encouraging a fellow pastor who is going through a bad time in his personal life. He was very discouraged and as is normal in this situation, his heart was turned inwards. This might sound a little harsh, but the bible tells us that to help ourselves, we should help others. Give our heads a break and turn our attention to others that need an encouraging word from a sister or brother in Christ. Oftentimes we are so wrapped up in our own problems that showing the love of God to others in need seems impossible. Yet, this is what the bible tells us we should do. Look at Philippians 2:4 (NIV):
“not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
We need to get our minds off of ourselves sometimes. I believe that when we do this, that God will indeed bless us. Our enemy Satan will try to put us in bondage to our thoughts, our sorrows and our needs. In 1st Thessalonians, Chapter 5, the Apostle Paul encourages the saints in the Thessalonian church to be children of light and not of darkness. Not to be overcome by the things of this world. In verse 11, the Apostle Paul says:
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
My friends, leave your problems and needs with the Father of Lights, who loves us with an eternal love and be a blessing to others. Don’t let Satan or others put you in a box where you are ineffective as a Christian. Put your trust in God and leave your problems with our Lord and Saviour and be a blessing to your fellow man.
