How ON EARTH Can I Live The Christian Life?
Part 39 – Assignment Two: Beholding Fellowship in the Godhead

In assignment one, you were still the entire centre of everything that was prayed. For example, using Psalm 23, you prayed, “Lord, You are my Shepherd. I shall not want. You make me lie down in green pastures. You restore my soul. My cup runs over. Goodness shall follow me all the days of my life.” In this second assignment, you will now shift the centre of your praying.

We need to understand that Christ has experienced every spiritual experience possible already, and so you will never have a spiritual experience, that was not first known and experienced by Jesus. Therefore, Psalm 23 was not first experienced by you, or by David, but by the Lord Jesus Christ first.

Jesus lived in eternity past, He is outside of space and time, and so Psalm 23 is not just David’s experience, it is also a description of the relationship that was experienced between God the Father, and God the Son.

  1. Go back to the 4 passages you chose, but this time, step out of the prayer.

As you pray through this passage, do not make any personal references to yourself. Instead, as you pray this prayer, watch the fellowship between the Father and the Son, and behold them.

a) Get alone and get quiet.

b) Start by loving God and being loved by Him.

c) Observe the fellowship between the Father and Son, as you pray.

d) Turn to each passage, but step out of it, and see God the Father and God the Son in it.

e) Example – Psalm 23

Verse 1 – “Father, when Jesus Christ was here on this earth, You were His Shepherd. He never had any needs. You met all His needs. You are all that Jesus Christ has ever needed.

Verse 2 – “Lord Jesus, while You lived here on earth, Your Father was Your rest. You rested in Him. He replenished Your soul. Your Father was Your drink. He was Your food. He was Your full supply.

Verse 3 – “Father, You are the righteousness of Jesus Christ. You are His path. The Lord Jesus moved and lived in Your righteousness. He followed You, and He glorified Your name.

f) As you pray through the passage, again, let your heart lead you, and as you pray, try to behold the fellowship that is going on, between the Father and the Son.

  1. Repeat this exercise, with the other 3 passages you chose.
