House Church Formation – Part 5 – House Church Core Values
Worship – Seeking To Glorify Christ (Adoration)
We will focus on Jesus at the centre of our house meetings.
Worship, not singing. Worship is far more than just singing. It is giving thanks to God, being grateful, overflowing in appreciation for all He has done for us.
2 Thessalonians 1:12, NIV – (12) We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Worship is not just about singing, worship is about the Lord Jesus being glorified in us, and through everything we do.
Fellowship – Committing To Each Other (Devotion)
We will enjoy true Christian community, based on honesty and sacrificial love.
Fellowship, not socialization. Fellowship is far more than just socialization. It is sharing heart to heart, out of a concern for each other. It is truly living in community with other people with a care for their whole being.
Act 2:42-47, NIV – (42) They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. … (44) All the believers were together and had everything in common. … (46) … They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, (47) praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. …
Notice that they didn’t devote themselves to fellowship, they devoted themselves to “the” fellowship, the community of believers in a specific place. Their hearts were fully turned toward each other in intense commitment.
Ministry – Sharing With Each Other (Participation)
We will minister to each other using our gifts.
Ministry, not performance. Ministry is not about us, it is about the other person. We will go beyond our personality, beyond our comfort zone, risking feeling safe, to make sure that the other person has truly been helped and blessed.
1 Corinthians 14:26, NIV – (26) What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church.
Everyone … everyone should come knowing that they have something to contribute … everyone should come knowing that they should contribute … and everyone should come knowing that God’s desire is that whatever they contribute, will be for the strengthening of people in the group.
Discipleship – Loving Enough To Incite Growth (Exhortation)
We will grow to be like Jesus.
Application, not information. Discipleship isn’t about Bible knowledge or doctrine. Discipleship has only one purpose …. to be conformed to the full stature of Jesus. We grow as we apply God’s Word, in our everyday lives.
Ephesians 4:15, NIV – (15) Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.
Notice the purpose of speaking the truth in love … not to make sure that no one ever gets offended, but to “offend” people in love to growth, into maturity in Christ.
Evangelism – Caring Enough To Reach Out (Incorporation)
We will reach out to others in friendship, with God’s love.
Incorporation, not “soul winning”. Evangelism, sharing the “Gospel of the Kingdom”, isn’t just about “winning souls”. It is about incorporating each and every person who responds to the Gospel, into a loving and caring Christian community where unconditional acceptance and love heal every hurt and restore every life.
2 Corinthians 5:20, NIV – (20) We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.
As Christ’s ambassadors, we are not just to share the good news of the Gospel of the Kingdom, we are to incorporate each person we win into a community where they can experience complete reconciliation to God. Reconciliation of spirit to Spirit, but also reconciliation in their souls … mind, will and emotions … until every part of their lives are united with the heart of God.
The primary purpose of a House Church is to experience life together, not just have meetings. The primary agenda for each House Church is to have Jesus glorified in its midst. The Core Values act as a framework, to ensure that in everything done, Jesus is glorified.
