Part 16 – Comparing The Various States Of Man

 Before we go on, let’s look again at the various states or conditions of man.

Unfallen Adam

  • Body: Innocent
  • Soul: Perfectly innocent
  • Spirit: Originating in the spiritual realm, but empty
  • Habitation: The Garden of Eden
  • Condition: Fellowship with God, but incomplete, never intended to became a race

Fallen Adam

  • Body: Indwelt by sin
  • Soul: Scarred by sin, damaged in nature, lost from God
  • Spirit: Dead, and cut off from God
  • Habitation: The fallen world
  • Condition: Separated from God

Fallen Race Of The Sons Of Adam

  • Body: so corrupted by sin, that it is now called “flesh”
  • Soul: Enlarged, seeking to function as the spirit
  • Spirit: Dead to spiritual things, estranged from God
  • Habitation: The fallen world
  • Condition: Under the control of sin, indwelling the body (flesh)

Jesus The Incarnate Christ

  • Body: Sinless
  • Soul: Perfect
  • Spirit: Perfectly balanced, living, indwelt by, and one with, the life of God
  • Habitation: Earth
  • Condition: Perfect fellowship with God

The Resurrected Christ

  • Body: Sinless, but now also in some way spiritual
  • Soul: Perfect
  • Spirit: Perfectly balanced, living, indwelt by, and one with, the life of God
  • Habitation: Transcendent above the space-time creation
  • Condition: Spirit, soul and body passed through death.

Regenerated Believers

  • Body: Still fallen
  • Soul: Cleansed, forgiven, etc., being daily transformed
  • Spirit: Made alive, indwelt by, and one with, the life of God
  • Habitation: Dual habitation in The Kingdom and in the fallen world
  • Condition: A new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), a new man (a new human or humanity or race) (Galatians 6:15)

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV).

“Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is a new creation.” (Galatians 6:15, NIV).

Glorified Christ

  • Body: Sinless and spiritual
  • Soul: Perfect
  • Spirit: Perfectly balanced, living, indwelt by, and one with, the life of God
  • Habitation: Reigning in heaven, yet in each believer
  • Condition: Indescribable

Resurrected Believer

  • Body: Sinless and spiritual
  • Soul: Perfect
  • Spirit: Perfectly balanced, living, indwelt by, and one with, the life of God
  • Habitation: ????
  • Condition: Like Jesus

“…. what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.” – 1 John 3:2, NIV.
